Review: Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm

This isn’t honestly an item I’d normally buy.  I generally wear lip gloss or tinted lip balm and avoid anything in the “stick” family.  However, it was one of the items in a free-gift-with-purchase kit I got a while back.  And I’ll try almost anything that’s free…

Pros:  Free of sulfate, parabens, and petro-chemicals.  Not flavored/fragranced.  Allergy-tested.  Container is retractable (after initial use – the first part of the balm can’t be retracted).  Contains mango and shea butter.

Cons:  Expensive.  Kind of large (container with lid is larger than the average lipstick) and unwieldy.  Greasy.  Not deeply-pigmented (color is fainter than its outward appearance).  Not long-lasting.  Doesn’t moisturize as much as the name implies.

Note:  This also comes in an “intense moisturizing” formula, with different color options.

In Summary:   Meh.  This product is comparable to tinted lip balm types of products, but it’s way more expensive.  It’s not great as a balm and not great at providing color (certainly not for an extended period of time).  I think this is a common problem with tinted balms, but at this price I’d expect it to work better than the stuff I’ve gotten for $5.  If you want a decent tinted lip balm, shop around for a drug store brand and save some money.
