Thumbs-Down: Schick Hydro Silk Razor

I’ve been using the men’s version of this razor for a while and love it (review here),  so when I saw the opportunity to try the “girl” version at a great price, I figured I’d might as well take the deal, since the product is essentially the same.  Except that it’s not…

Pros:  Flexible head allows for maneuverability.  5 blades allows for a closer shave.

Cons:  Expensive.  Replacement cartridge is large, making it hard to navigate some areas.  Doesn’t shave as smoothly as the “male” version. Has a cheaply-made feel (especially when compared with the men’s).  I had to double-check to make sure I hadn’t accidentally grabbed a disposable razor out of my cabinet.

In Summary:  If you want a good razor, get the men’s Schick Hydro 5.  (Although my feminist tendencies are encouraging me to boycott the company on principle!) The Schick Hydro Silk is just yet another example of how women’s stuff costs more and isn’t made as well.  Shame on you, Schick!

Rating:  2 out of 5 stars (mostly because I’m comparing it to the men’s version, but it’s not even the best women’s razor I’ve ever used)

Price:  approx. $11 for starter kit, approx $15 for 4 replacement blades

Available at:  mass merchandisers, drug stores
