Review: Herbal Essences “Color Me Happy” Shampoo

About 2 weeks ago, I colored my hair.  Nothing dramatic – or permanent.  I was just getting a little bored with my hair, but I’m trying to grow it out to donate, so I don’t want to get it cut.  Coloring my hair meant I needed “color safe” shampoo, so I picked this one up…

Pros:  Lightweight.  Inexpensive (and you can use coupons to buy it!).  Paraben-free.

Cons: Contains sulfates (detergents that cleanse, but also strip your hair of their moisture – and color!).  Fragrance is faintly reminiscent of cough syrup (to me, anyway).

In Summary:  I’m not sure why there are so many “color” shampoos on the market that contain sulfates.  (OK, I know why – it’s because sulfates are cheaper than the alternatives, and people keep buying the products…)  At any rate, in the future I’d prefer to buy actual color-safe products that don’t contain sulfates.  This one is good for everyday use, but I don’t think it has done anything to help maintain my color.

Rating:  3 out of 5 stars

Price:  $4 – $8, depending on which size you buy

Available at:  mass merchandisers, drug stores, Ulta (not available online), drugstore.com
