Feeling the Burn?

Summer has been in full-swing where I live for a while now.  I’ve seen lots of people sporting the “lobster” look.  Ouch.  If you forgot the SPF or the UV rays just got the better of you, here are some products that might be able to help…

Solarcaine:  It comes in a spray (which some people swear by, but it contains parabens) and a gel (my preference).  The gel is also good for bug bites/stings.  Both contain lidocaine, which helps with pain relief.  Available at drugstores.

Solarcaine Spray. Approx. $8.

Solarcaine Gel. Approx. $8.

Burt’s Bees Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother:  This product is 99.5% natural, so it might be a good way to go if you’re trying to avoid lots of additives.  It’s not my favorite product, but it helps soothe and hydrate skin.  Available at www.burtsbees.com.

Burt’s Bees After Sun Soother. Approx. $10.

SunBurnt:  I haven’t tried this product – because my kids used it all up before I needed it.  They said it works, and it’s paraben-free.  It contains a lot of naturally-derived ingredients, too.  Available at drugstores.

Sun Burnt Therapeutic After Sun Relief Gel. Approx. $9.

Post-Sunburn Care Tips:  Look for products that contain aloe.  Aloe is what’s going to help soothe your skin and prevent peeling.  Apply liberally and as often as the instructions say.  Throw away any products that are expired – they get less effective as they get older.  DON’T stop using the product as soon as your skin is looking less-than-“lobster”.  Your skin is still damaged and will still peel if you don’t keep hydrating/treating it.
