Love This! – Argan Oil

I’m not usually one to jump onto “trend” bandwagons, but sometimes the bandwagon is travelling in the right direction.  Lots of products lately contain argan oil, and for good reason.

About Argan Oil:   Originally from Morocco, Argan Oil is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids.  Although it is an oil, it doesn’t feel oily on the skin.  It’s kind of amazing.

For Skin:  Supposedly, argan oil has anti-aging properties and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  I haven’t used it often/long enough to notice a difference.  However, I can tell you that it improves the appearance of dull/dry skin.  Just a few drops make your skin look instantly healthier.  It’s also supposed to help with skin conditions like excema, acne, and psoriasis, as well as reducing the appearance of scars.  (Again, I can’t attest to this, since I haven’t tried it for these purposes.)

For Hair:  A little bit of argan oil can tame frizzy hair or make dull, dry hair look more moisturized.  Just apply to damp hair before drying/heat styling.

But…  There are lots of products out there that say “Argan Oil”, but it’s only an ingredient.  If you want to get the full benefits of this product, you should buy a bottle of 100% argan oil.  Apparently, there are several methods of extracting the argan oil which affect their quality, but I’m not a scientist, so I’m not going to go into all that.

Prices:  I’ve been using Josie Maran’s Organic Argan Oil, because I got a “bonus-sized” sample.  It starts at $14 for a tiny .5 fl oz. bottle.  (available at Sephora)  There are many brands that sell argan oil, and you can find many of them at for prices starting under $10 for a 1 oz. bottle.
